Detention Facilities

All health services require an authorization from DIHS. It is the responsibility of the Detention Facility to:

  • Complete a Treatment Authorization Request (TAR) for health services via TARWeb. This application is for Detention Facilities Internet access. Fax an authorization request if you do not have Internet access or TARWeb in unavailable.
*Submission of a TAR does not guarantee an authorization for health services. A TAR is considered authorized ONLY when the appropriate MCC has certified treatment and the authorized TAR is returned to the requesting Detention Facility via internet or fax.
  • Locate the appropriate health service provider; schedule the appointment for the health service; and provide transport to the health service.
  • Provide a copy of the authorized TAR to the health service provider prior to or at the time of treatment. An authorized TAR must be provided to the health service provider in order to:
    • Convey the guidelines concerning which health services have been authorized.
    • Ensure timely proper reimbursement to the health service provider for authorized health services. (Information contained on an authorized TAR must be submitted by the health service provider on the appropriate claim form).
  • Notify your DIHS MCC of any unscheduled inpatient admissions within 24 hours after the admission occurs.

For questions concerning completion of a TAR, please contact your DIHS MCC.

For questions concerning DIHS' standard reimbursement for authorized health services, please call 202-732-0100.
