Berks County Family Residential Center
About our facilityThe Berks Family Residential Center was established in March 2001 as the first facility of its kind in the United States. The family residential concept allows families to remain together while awaiting the outcome of their immigration proceedings. The 85-bed facility is designed to accommodate the needs of families in a non-secure detention setting. Given the wide age range of those housed here, the ability to meet their broad spectrum of needs is a must. School age children attend classes for approximately seven hours a day. In addition, adults can elect to attend English language classes. Recreation, social and spiritual needs are also met through programs within the facility. This is one of two facilities within the ICE Health Service Corps that offer clinicians an opportunity to work with patients in a family practice setting. Meet our staff and see what we doOperated by the ICE Health Service Corps, the ambulatory clinic is staffed by U. S. Public Health Service officers and contract personnel. Emphasis is placed on the well being of our population, consistent with our mission to support Immigration and Custom Enforcement initiatives. Parents play an active role in the decision making processing regarding the health care of their children. Our staffing model includes administrative personnel, a physician and mid-level provider, a dentist and dental assistant, clinical social workers, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, a medical records technician and a pharmacy technician. Staff work together to meet the Division's mission to "protect America by providing health care and public health services in support of immigration law enforcement."
